Last night, January 7th, was the Eagles Annual Christmas Party, where members and non members get together for a great meal, conversation and a fun gift exchange. However this year, we added a new item which we hope to continue each year. As a group, we receive many Thank You's for the charity work we do for the community. This year, we decided to start recognizing the individual efforts our fellow members with the- Chippewa Valley Fraternal Order of Eagles Member Service Recognition Award. Our inaugural recepients are two couples that spent many years giving their time and effort to keep our bingo program going. Brent and Wendy Jaenke took over the reins many years ago from the then older members who wanted a break. Debbie Smith was operating the Ladies bingo at the time the Auxiliary decided to drop their bingo and partner with the men. Her husband Larry also came along to help split the Check writing duties with the Jaenke's. A few years ago, our Club decided to take a break from bingo but we never forgot the volunteer efforts the Jaenke's and Smith's did to keep our bingo going for so many years. So ,it was very fitting that we recognize these couples as our first recepients. Congratulations Brent & Wendy and Larry & Debbie. The plaque will be under permanent display in the bar.

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS

2016 was a good year for fund raising and having new members come on board and get involved. Obviously, the highlight was the 2nd Annual Block Party where we raised $16,000.00 for the VFW Unmet Needs Program. Shortly, we will begin planning the 3rd Annual Block Party. Many ideas are floating around, so if you have an idea, we would love to hear it. Our goal this year, is to have 4 or 5 fund raising events scheduled that we would do every year, same time each year and placed on the Fiscal Calendar Year (June-May) The Block party is one that will always take place the week-end after Labor Day.

We were excited to get a little bit of press these past few weeks for our Meat Raffle. The more information we can get out to the public well in advance of the event, the better chance we have of advertising it to much more people in the area. Our Facebook page and website are doing very well, but we realize that not everyone is into Social Media. To those who are more connected to Social Media, please pass along any information about upcoming events or just to say hello, haven’t seen you in a while, how are you?

Upcoming events:

• January 7th-Annual Eagles Christmas Party. Cocktails at 5:30, Dinner at 6:30 featuring Shrimp and Steak. The sign-up sheet is at the club-$8 for members and $9 for non-members. For those who wish to participate, we will have a gift exchange. Spending limit is $10, mark for a Man or Women.

• We are scheduling two dates to run the Gordy’s Brat Stand in the summer. Dates will be announced when they are confirmed.

• August 18,19 & 20,2017, we will be helping at the 2017 Bog Truck Show to be held at the Northern WI State Fair Grounds. More details to be announced.

• Considering running a Triathlon (pool, darts & bean bags) in March as a fund raiser.

We value every one of our members and hope to keep you all involved, no gift is too small to be recognized. We hope everyone had a great holiday and are looking forward to the new year.

Happy New Year everyone. Let’s make 2017 an even better year than 2016.

On Thursday, December 15th, the Eagles Club hosted a meat raffle for Angel Hernandez, an 18-month-old little boy who was diagnosed with Brain Cancer. The evening was a huge success. With our Master of the Meat Raffle, Tim Clark and meat from Sokup's Meat Market, we raised a total of $2,620.00. Also attending that night: Great Northern Corporation had their Christmas Party there and generously purchased tickets for each round so that their employees could participate. They also made an additional donation. Additional meat was donated by Kwik Trip in Chippewa Falls, the Hernandez Family and friends were in attendance and finally to long time Members, Steve and Tammy Jaenke who donated a $1,000.00 to bring us to the total of $2,620.00. We would also like to thank all those who did attend to support this cause. It is amazing what a community can do when we come together for a worthy cause. Pete Lawrence accepted the check for the family to present to them at a later date.

As the Fraternal Order of Eagles, our motto is People Helping People. We take special pride in utilizing our Meat Raffle to take up special causes to raise money for families in our area. In many cases, the story is heartbreaking with people suffering from the death of a child, a rare disease or cancer. The story of little Angel Hernandez is one of those heartbreaking stories. Here is an 18 month old little boy who has been diagnosed with Brain Cancer. The money we raise will go to treatments, medical supplies, groceries, day care expenses as he has a sister and general living expenses. Please mark your calenders and come out to support this family as they struggle to fight this disease. Thursday, December 15th starting at 6:30 PM.
